It was nice to be in Suffolk -
it was a little break;
I’d recommend it to all the fish like cod and roe and hake.
They could swim along the coastal bits
where the waves spill onto sand,
so long as they didn’t go all that very much further inland.
They could
do what all the fishes do
on happy holidays,
visiting all the harbours and friends in distant quays:
The Halibuts, the
Mackerals,
the Herrings and the Sprats -
it doesn’t really matter once they’re dipped in batter
whether
they’re on holiday or not.
